We started looking at that approach but found it to timeconsuming to get even the lowlevelmonitoring. Just setting up SNMP-monitoring for diskusage, cpu, memory would take a long time.
I would love to see this we have some vendor boxes as well and are getting hard push back against our monitoring their boxes
I concur. This is the same set up we have. They had to give the local account on the unix machines elevated permissions on the security folder to fix some alerts (about premissions), but otherwise is works fine, if a bit manual to set up the initial monitoring.
I am having a battle with my Linux team which seems to be going back to the root account issue too.
