Hi, we are in the last fase of migrating to scom 2019. All our agents are now multihomed (windows and linux) to our new environment and the old.
Do I need something to do with the agents before we stop the old environment?
Can this be a problem when with the agent cache when we only stop the old environment?
Kind regards,
Luc
When we migrated side by side from 2007 to 2012 (which is one of the reasons why we’ve inplaced since!), we ran a cleanup on the agents. I think it would be wise to do so even though I would assume that agents won’t care either way. I’m also a big proponent of keeping things clean as much as possible as you never know what bugs may creep up…
To cleanup the agent, just find an automated way to delete the old MG name off HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Microsoft Operations Manager\3.0\Agent Management Groups
I used GPOs way back then, but scripts, SCCM, or even a Rule in SCOM (if you’re so inclined) could do the trick…
Check out Kevin Holman’s SCOM Management MP.
There’s a view that lists what Management Group your agents are talking to. And unless I’m mistaken, there is also a task to remove (or add) Management Groups. Handy when you want to clean things up without logging onto all of your servers.
