Vada - da -> scsm

I have done a simple Application Discovery using VADA then exported the map followed by importing this into SCOM (DA).

The DA created however I was then hoping that the DA would appear in SCSM as a Configuration Item under Business Services.

Any reason why this DA wouldn’t transition across to SCSM?

Hi Schoeman,

Have you also imported the management pack that contains the DA into SCSM?

A caveat of having this MP go into SCSM is that it only contains objects already in SCSM. If you’ve edited the DA in SCOM and added a network device or other objects that aren’t already in SCSM, then the DA will not appear.

Cheers,

Jelly

Have you also imported the MP generated by VADA containing your application into SCSM, and then configured the SCOM CI connector to sync objects from that MP?

You may find if your DA contained objects that were not being synced into SCSM (such as network devices) you’ll need to import other MPs into SCSM first that define those objects. The SCSM MP import wizard will generate the errors for you and tell you which MPs you are missing, but be warned it’s no where near as user-friendly and intuitive as the SCOM console’s.

Hi Vyper
Thank you for responding to my problem. I have attached a screenshot showing the error I get when importing the MP in SCSM. Any ideas?

Hi Schoeman,

This is due to a missing base SCOM management pack. You can find this MP on the SCSM management server at the following location:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft System Center\Service Manager

There are several folders here:

Operations Manager 2012 Management Packs
Operations Manager 2012 R2 Management Packs
Operations Manager 2012 SP1 Management Packs
Operations Manager 2014 M1 Management Packs
Operations Manager 2015 TP4 Management Packs
Operations Manager 2016 RTM Management Packs
Operations Manager Management Packs

Be sure to pick the folder for your version of SCOM and install the dependent management pack.

Thanks!

Hi Jelly - See my screenshots.
You were right - the MP were located in C:\Program Files\Microsoft System Center 2012\Service Manager\Operations Manager 2012 R2 Management Packs. However when I tried to import the one causing the problem it says that it is already imported?
“I almost thought we had it sorted” :frowning:

Based on the screenshot, you are trying to import the wrong MP. You need Microsoft.Windows,Image.Library, not System.Image.Library. If that MP isn’t available with the SCSM binaries, you can find it on the SCOM installation media (there is a Management Packs folder, should be in there).

Vyper - Devil is in the detail

That was the problem! Thank you for your help much appreciated

Managed to solve the problem. I tried to import the wrong MP :-(.
Thank you for your help much appreciated

Superb! This is what the community is for and I’m glad that together we got you there!

Am I right in thinking that the service components should now contain the objects defined in the DA? See my screenshot - For some reason mine doesn’t expand to show the associated components?

It should - have you updated the SCOM CI connector to now sync your imported MP? Has the connector run successfully since you imported the MP?
